I'm a procurement manager at a 41-person healthcare logistics company, and I've managed our label and printing budget for about six years. Maybe five and a half. I'd have to check the system. Those sizes matter for a copy machine. For a label printer, the question is different. It's media width and label length, usually in inches or millimeters, and it has to match both the printer and the driver setting.
A Zebra ZD421T printer, for example, accepts media up to about 4.25 inches wide. A common shipping label is 4 × 6 inches. An address label might be 2 × 1 inches. If you set the wrong media size in the driver, each label shifts a little. By the end of a roll, you've got a stack of unreadable labels and no idea why.

At 203 DPI, a 4 × 6 shipping label has enough resolution for most standard barcodes. If your labels are crowded with small text or tight barcode modules, the 300 DPI option pays for itself in first-time read rates. That's a media and printing decision before it's a hardware decision.
Every time we add a new SKU, the label template has to be checked against the actual label roll. A 4 × 6 label from one vendor can have a slightly different liner thickness or gap.
